Overheard in my classroom recently:
A student stumbling through the word pianist....stuttering, stumbling and, in general, mispronouncing the word....
Another student, from a few feet away-and thus in a slightly louder voice:
"I know that word, isn't it penis?"
Me: "I think you mean the word pianisT" (Heavy emphasis on the T there. And then, a repeat, just in case I wasn't heard the first time.) PianisT.
I seriously can't even make this stuff up.

One of my English teacher friends has a Word of the Week thing where kids enter words from their books into a jar and she picks one to be the word of the week. Last week one of the kiddos thought a good pick for the Word of the Week was "ejaculations".
!!!!!
I remember being in middle school and our teacher was having us call out words that end in "tion" for some reason....so we got a lot of the usual - construction, punctuation, etc.
Then one kid yelled out "erection." My teacher was pretty quick on her feet though b/c she said - you mean like the erection of a building, correct?
You're right. You can't make this stuff up.
Kids say the funniest things... I agree with Kelli you can't make this up and once you grow up, you can't remember the unique way you used to do it too ;)
At least that's my thinking :)
I've been thinking of you and Kelli a lot lately. I would love to have a means to contact you both about a project I'm working on. If you might be interested in a light chat please email me at suekw71 @ gmail . com (remove the spaces).
Have a wonderful day!
