During a walk with Aliza:
Aliza: "Stop sign!" (OK, she doesn't clearly enunciate the words stop sign, but she gets two syllables out that vaguely resemble stop and sign and I know what she means, even if no one else does.)
Me: "Stop sign!"
Pause.
Me: "S.T.O.P. spells stop!"
Pause.
Me: "That's a red octagon."
Pause.
Me: "An octagon has eight sides. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8."
Pause.
Me: "Just like an octopus has eight legs."
Pause.
Me: "That's because oct- means eight."
(Sometimes, I'll even throw in there that the main character in the book she likes to read in her bath is a blue octopus.)
See what I mean when I say she has no chance at slacking off in school?

I love you! I can totally hear you doing this. Your little Aliza is one smart cookie and she so verbal. I think I know why...
You will not believe how fast she will be able to spell stop. Jackson's first spelling word was OPEN - the sign at the window at the donut store drive thru...
That is how us non-teacher mommy's do it at least...good to know I might be getting it right!
Cute story!
I have a feeling Aliza's going to be one "wicked" smart kid.
That is just so cute! I totally see you doing this! Chris always teases me when I do this type thing to Alexis and says, just let the kid have fun, but hey, learning should be fun, right?!?
I know that she listens to every word that you say. She's such a little sponge!!! She's so smart already.
That's one more thing that I miss this summer--I miss listening to you talking to Aliza in the morning and telling her all about what is planned for the day.
Love GramS
